We studied the stability and retrieval of different IVC filters which capture emboli to prevent pulmonary embolisms. The movie clip shows a 3D view of a computer model of an IVC filter and the deformation and force analysis of pulling back the device when attached to the IVC wall.
WatchBlood flow reduction due to flow diverter treatment in patients with brain aneurysms can be measured directly by 2D DSA. This study also verified the impact of input image quality on flow reduction estimation. read more
WatchFlow diverters for treating brain aneurysms aim to redirect flow from entering an aneurysm. We have developed 3D computer simulations to analyze the possible flow effects based on patient aneurysm images. The movie shows how flow may change if a Shield Membrane High Coverage (SMHC) flow diverter is implanted. Comparing aneurysm simulations with and without this treatment, the device reduced total flow and lowered peak flow entering the aneurysm.
WatchThe risk of treating an unruptured aneurysm needs to be evaluated against the risk of rupture. There are many low risk aneurysms that have been followed over years using imaging to monitor whether risk changes due to growth. We have developed computer programs to help identify aneurysm growth. The movie shows a comparison of the entire brain vascular structure with a patient’s medical images. Left is the vessel images for the initial visit and right is the one year follow up scans and areas of aneurysm growth.
